Every year on the 8th of June, people around the world celebrates World Oceans Day as a way to create awareness and to celebrate our oceans. The theme for 2017 was “Our oceans, our future”
This year the LBRCT celebrated World Oceans Day with Heidelberg Christian School and Hessequa Municipality’s Environmental department. Pupils learned about Marine debris, human impacts on our oceans as well as the effects of litter on marine life. They were stunned to hear how long it takes for certain debris types to break down. They also built their very own oceans in boxes and got prizes for the best 3 and were super excited about their ocean boxes.
