Bird Counts
The LBRCT conducts bird counts on the Breede Estuary every month. These counts are started at the mouth of the river at spring low tide (either New Moon or Full Moon). This is to ensure the most birds are recorded as they forage on the exposed mud flats. The bird count is stopped at the Pont (38 km upriver).
Twice a year the LBRCT assists CapeNature conduct their Summer and Winter Coordinated Waterbird Counts (CWAC).

The LBRCT also assisted CapeNature to conduct their winter Coordinated Waterbird Count on the 23rd of August. We were blessed with beautiful weather and observed a large diversity of birds and
animals along the lower estuary.
No bird count was conducted due to flooding and unsafe river conditions.
