There are a number of bait products that can be store-bought such as pilchard and chokka. If you want to collect your own bait you must be in possession of a valid bait collecting license that you can get from your nearest Post Office. Please note that you may not buy bait from a non-commercial bait seller and in the Lower Breede River area we do not have a commercial bait seller.
Bait licenses fall under national Legislation and are not issued by the LBRC. The only place one can acquire these permits are from a national Post Office. This permit must be acquired by anybody who is planning to collect bait except for children 12 years or younger, but they must have adult supervision.
Here again one can opt for an annual permit which runs for a year from the date of purchase. One can also buy a temporary permit which is valid for a month from the date of purchase. These permits are national and are valid throughout South Africa except for the KZN province.
