Discarded fishing line is one of the most common types of litter that we’ve collected during our beach clean-ups. It takes about 600 years for fishing line to decompose. Other than a number of years it takes to decompose, the consequences on our marine life are terrifying.
For this reason, fishing line bins were put up at selected sites around the estuary and at the beach on the Witsand side.
The municipality has been informed and asked to clean these bins out regularly. Look for the fishing line bins and please use these bins wisely, you might just save a sea turtle!
